One of my favorite quotes is by Ram Dass, “We’re all just walking each other home.” This is what teaching yoga feels like to me. It is my honor and privilege to help walk people home. I love witnessing people make peace with themselves and to realize that “home” first and foremost, resides within.
Yin yoga is all about creating space inside the body through stillness and long held poses. It creates flexibility and openness in the joints; but it can also creates these same qualities in the heart and mind. Because of its meditative qualities, the lessons people learn through their bodies are easily translated off the mat. “What do I want to create more space for? How do I react when I feel stressed or overwhelmed? Can I use my breath to stay present?…”
I use a hands-on approach to teaching and utilize my Reiki training to help students find calmness in their body and mind during their practice. Every time I teach, I recognize that I’m walking people home; but the magic is that every single student is walking me home too.
I did my yoga training through Elevate with Jill Knouse. I’ve also studied with Paul and Suzee Grilley, Sarasvati Hewitt, Chris Calarco and Paul Terrell. In addition to my yoga certification, I am also a certified NLP Master Practitioner, a level 2 Reiki practitioner; and am currently working on my TIBS (Trauma-Informed, Brain-Sensitive) certificate.
