Tiffany Viehmann
Who I am: Tiffany has been in the Holistic Health field for over 10 years, with several diplomas in herbal medicine and nutrition as well as a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She founded sports medicine clinics in Portland and NYC, and recently moved back from NYC where she treated many celebrities and pro athletes. Her approach to medicine is holistic and preventative using a variety of methods to restore optimal health including acupuncture, hands-on manual therapy, herbs, vitamins/supplements, diet, exercise, massage and of course yoga. In addition she also teaches at McMaster Medical School.
Why I teach: In my experience, yoga is therapeutic on many levels. Physically it strengthens and creates elasticity in the tissues. Internally it purifies and detoxifies the organs. Mentally it establishes awareness and clarity as well as a calm, confident sense of self both on and off the mat. To me, the intensity of a strenuous yoga practice mimics the stress of our lives and therefore allows us to change our patterned responses and to reprogram the nervous system and our response to stress by broadening the gap between action and reaction. With more and more research being done, we are finally realizing that it is this stress that is responsible not only for the degradation of our health but also our well-being. I use yoga with many of my patients for this reason. I believe it not only addresses the physical ailments, but through regular practice it also addresses our mental/emotional health and stress levels.
About my training: Tiffany has been teaching since 1996 and practicing since 1994. She did her initial and an advanced teacher training through The Expanding Light to accumulate her 500 hour certification. She has also completed extensive ashtanga primary and intermediate series teacher trainings with David Swenson and Tim Miller. She has studied with Sri. K Pattabhi Jois on several occasions, in the US, as well as in India and has studied with Eddie Stern, Guy Donahaye and Baron Baptiste. She specializes in Ashtanga and Power Vinyasa but has also studied with some of the top instructors in the Iyengar and Anusara traditions. She has taught workshops in anatomy, nutrition, Chinese medicine, pranayama, adjustments/teacher training, chakras, jump-backs/levitation, and primary/intermediate/advanced series. Tiffany maintains a daily practice in which she has completed the advanced (3rd) series of ashtanga and has dabbled in 4th series. |
