Therapeutic Massage : Jen Hayes

Jen completed her Esalen massage certification in November, 1997. Upon moving to Portland, Jen enrolled at East-West College of the Healing Arts, completing her Oregon state licensure in 2000. Jen specializes in Deep Tissue massage, but also loves the opportunity to return to her roots in Esalen bodywork. While Jen’s massage techniques are driven by an understanding of anatomy, her massage is also strongly guided by intuition. She has had beginning training in Lomi Lomi massage in the lineage of Aunty Margaret, as well as experience in pregnancy massage. Jen employs many techniques from the different modalities of her training into her massages to address the individual  needs of her clients. Jen’s clients regularly experience relief from pain, as well as achieve a sense of deep relaxation.

Jen offers massage on Tuesdays at Yoga Pearl. To schedule an appointment, please contact her directly at 503-975-4383.

Swedish Massage
One of the most common forms of massage used in the United States, "Swedish massage" utilizes five basic strokes all flowing toward the heart. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussive and tapping movements, with the application of oil or lotion to reduce friction on the skin. A sheet covers the disrobed client, with only the area being worked on exposed. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, improved circulation, and breaking up adhesions.

Deep Tissue
Based on the principles of Swedish massage, deep tissue techniques are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis, tendonitis, etc.

Esalen
Esalen massage is a unique, holistic style of bodywork which utilizes long, flowing strokes, passive range of motion exercises and seeks to integrate the whole person--body, mind and soul.
