Uma received a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and is a state licensed acupuncturist. She is nationally certified in acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Uma has practiced as a licensed massage therapist since 1998. Her knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology blends well with her acupuncture practice today.
Born and raised on a healing arts community, The Yoga Society of New York, Uma has a deep appreciation for bodywork, yoga, mediation, Sanskrit, music, dance, different cultures and ways of life. These roots have provided a solid foundation for a life-long study of the healing arts. After graduating with a B.A. in Sociology, Women’s Studies and Dance from the University of New York, she moved to Portland to join an environmental branch of the Domestic Peace Corps. Uma attended East-West College and became licensed in massage in 1998. She has served as faculty at East-West since 2000 teaching Swedish Massage, Chinese Massage and Survey of Modalities.
